Zines & Design
about.
I publish zines and graphic work as forms of public history, historical interpretation, and alternative scholarly communication.
My personal zine, Spectres and Daggers, explores San Diego history and memory through visual narrative and experimental layout. In 2025, I created and presented Truth at the Root to Angela Davis, drawing on archival research and political education traditions.
Across these publications, I use hand-drawn illustration, painting, collage, and print-based experimentation to translate historical research into expressive, materially grounded forms.
Studio Practice
Together with my partner, Dempsey, I co-run Studio Carowe, an alternative media creative studio dedicated to translating academic research into tangible, public-facing formats.
Our work spans a wide range of visual and editorial styles, from polished digital publications to experimental print projects. Within this collaborative practice, I am particularly known for a punk, DIY sensibility rooted in hand-drawn illustration, painting, collage, and print-based design.
Pravda supports scholars, researchers, and cultural organizations in bringing complex ideas into accessible, well-crafted media without sacrificing rigor.
Recent and ongoing collaborative projects include a zine in development for the Center for Skateboarding, Action Sports, and Social Change, translating interdisciplinary research on action sports and social change into an accessible, widely shareable publication.
